About Orff Approach

German Orff Music Teaching Method

Carl Orff (1895-1982) was a famous 20th century German composer, conductor, and also a great music educator. He designed a creative and inspiring music teaching method that broke the tradition of sitting quietly to learn music, and is one of the four major music teaching methods of the 20th century, along with Dalcroze, Kodály, and Suzuki. The "Orff Music Teaching Method" is a teaching method that stimulates children to enter the wonderful world of music through imagination and develop their potential musicality. Carl Orff had a strong love for music from an early age, coupled with his wide interest in various arts, so he integrated music, dance, drama, literature, drawing and other art fields to become the Orff music teaching method that influenced the world. He advocates taking materials from children's daily life experiences, allowing children to "learn from experience" through children's songs, nursery rhymes, movement, singing, dancing, instrument ensemble, improvisation, etc., to explore and create music. Orff music promotes that music is primitive and natural! Orff education starts from everyone's talent, excavating from this root the possibility of people and music meeting naturally. As long as you can sing, as long as you can speak, as long as you can clap, as long as you are willing to share with others... you can get the joy of sound!
